Päivi Haikkola is heading Deltamarin’s Research and Development department. She has a long history of working with marine related companies. Päivi started her career in the nineties consulting and meeting marine customers around the world. Since then she has worked in various development projects for various companies in the pulp & paper and telecommunications industries apart from her assignments in the marine industries. She has held several administrative positions in the past and worked both at shipyards and suppliers to the marine industry. At Deltamarin she has previously worked as the Marketing Director. Päivi has a Master’s Degree in Economics (Business Administration) and Naval Architecture. more

Poul Woodall joined A.P.Moller-Maersk in 1974 and until 2010 worked in various positions within A.P.Moller-Maersk including 17 years overseas with postings in Asia, The Middle East and Europe.
Since 2010, Poul has been with DFDS A/S in Copenhagen and in June 2013 he was appointed Director for Environment and Sustainability for the DFDS Group. more

After 18 years at sea with P&O Nedlloyd and Maersk, Gaby Steentjes joined Flinter in 2010. He is fleet director of the Flinterfleet of nearly 50 vessels. Having been a dual officer, holding master as well as chief engineer tickets, the integration and efficiency of equipment and systems onboard have his particular interest. The recently completed research with TNO on one of the Flinter vessels revealed fuel-savings can reach up to 20% when retrofitting short sea vessels. more

Captain Fran Collins is an experienced master mariner who has enjoyed a long career in the marine industry, primarily across oil and gas, cable laying and more recently, ferries. She holds both deck and engineering licences and moved ashore into Operations in 2008. Apr. 22 year experience in technical/maritime vessel operation. Basic knowledge from apr. 3 years at sea. Special knowledge about environment-pollution from shipping from Norwegian Technical University. M.Sc in 1987 and Ph.d. in gas engines in 1992. Working with gas/diesel engine development from 1992-1998 at Marintek (The Norwegian Maritime Research Institute), where main customers were Wartsila, Rolls Royce and Volvo.
From 1998, approximately 17 years, experience in leading the technical/maritime operation in shipping companies (8 years in the offshore-supply vessel sector and 9 in the deep sea gas vessel sector). Clipper Quito was awarded as Significant vessel in 2013 by the Royal Institute of Naval architects’. Clipper Quito ECO LPG carriers.

Lecturer in Energy and Transport
Tristan Smith is a lecturer at UCL Energy Institute where he leads a 15-strong shipping research group. He has an academic and practitioner background as a naval architect. He was coordinator of the project “Low Carbon Shipping” and is currently leading research activity in the project “Shipping in Changing Climates”.
He led the IMO 3rd GHG Study, a “big data” inventory of global shipping’s energy demand and emissions, is lead author of ISO 19030 on the application of data to understanding hull and propeller performance, and contributes to the IMO, EU and UK policy discussions on the use of data in MRV and GHG policy measures. more
Dr Anne-Marie Warris has over 25 years’ experience in sustainable matters and is a leading expert in climate change and environmental issues. She was voted as ‘Outstanding contributor to ship efficiency’ by the industry for the Ship Efficiency Award 2014 and on to the top ten on the inaugural Environmentalist power list by readers of The Environmentalist in July 2014. The power list reveals those who are believed to be the most influential in helping organisations to better their environmental impact or who have had an influence on raising environment issues up the business and policy agendas. Anne-Marie was awarded Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association UK (WISTA UK) Personality of Year for 2013. She gave the Royal Academy of Engineering invited lecture on ‘A low carbon world – is it realistic?’ in April 2010. She was one of the drivers behind the ‘Sustainable Shipping Initiative’. Anne-Marie attends IMO MEPC as part of the ISO delegation. She holds a number of key external voluntary roles, all of them elected appointments – chair of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) sub-committee responsible for environmental management systems. Diane Gilpin led the B9 Shipping project and has recently launched the Smart Green Shipping Alliance to bring together a collaboration of organisations to deliver commercially, technically and environmentally superior modern merchant sailing vessels. She was a key player in the launch of the cellular telephony revolution, led commercial teams in Formula One motor racing, launched Citibank’s first post-deregulation windows based financial information system and has been developing renewable energy projects since 2009.
